Their relationship status started as they first became friends. During their friendship, Chris Goody will stop by to grab a cup of coffee then use her bathroom. After their friendship progressed a bit, he asked her out, unknown to her that he really had marriage in mind.
In her interview with Metro UK, Helen said that she is so happy to be getting married to Chris, adding that she has been so single for a long time.

I wasn’t looking for anything but I did think Chris was very handsome when he turned up. “We started off just chatting on the doorstep, then each week we would just talk more and more. He’d bring the shopping in, maybe have a drink and use the bathroom because it’s hard on the road,” she said.
